Student Counseling Services (320 Student Services Building) offers confidential services that are free to students and include individual counseling, general therapy groups, skill building classes, an eating disorders network, a relaxation room, and more.
Student Health Services (Second floor, Student Services Building) has a psychiatrist on staff who can provide consultations for mental health concerns, as well as Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) for alcohol use disorders. All Student Health Service physicians can prescribe smoking cessation medications for nicotine, which may also facilitate recovery from other substance use.
BASICS and CASICS are evidence-based interventions that are designed to help college students gain insights about their individual relationships and associated risks with alcohol or cannabis. Brief educational information about alcohol and cannabis is shared, assisting students in exploring their own:
At the end of the BASICS and CASICS process, students decide whether or not to make changes to reduce their risks with alcohol/cannabis and are assisted in creating a self-generated plan of action.
BASICS and CASICS occur over two sessions, both of which are 45-50 minutes in length. Between the sessions, students will complete several brief personal assessments that will be reviewed and processed during the second session
If you are interested in scheduling BASICS or CASICS, please contact Student Health Services at 438-2778.
